Amayadori

Amayadori is a game on experiencing time as a shelter from the rain, observing the various travellers that stop by and adapting to the ever-changing world around you.

In Japanese, Amayadori (雨宿り) refers to a physical shelter from the rain or the act of avoiding troubles by way of taking cover nearby. In this game, you will play as an Amayadori that persists through various weather conditions and the changes that come with the passing of time.

Through different prompts, you will sketch and jot down details of your Amayadori while exploring its interactions with travellers who are looking for shelter nearby. If you are new to solo journaling games, Amayadori will guide you through the fundamentals and how to get started through this game.

After deciding on the Creator of your Amayadori, you will choose various Travellers who pass through the area, learning about their adventures through your mostly silent interactions. As they move you, you will experiences empty Vacancies as you wait until you are graced with another Traveller's presence.

You'll spend anywhere from half an hour to one hour sketching and writing your way through a single game, experiencing non-linear passage of time.

I just played this little game with the soundtrack on and it was a wonderful moment of peace as the shelter evolved and grew.

I wished there had been more opportunity to roll on the weather in Act I and more opportunities to roll on the Wear and Tear table (I ended up rolling only on the Survive and Adapt). Not a big deal - I could have chosen to switch table if I really wanted to - and maybe just a prompt to play another round later :)
