NEW: Japanese version has been added! 日本語版もございます!

Tabirobo is a game on following the journey of a robot and its interactions along the way.

Tabirobo (旅ロボ) is a mix of two Japanese words - tabi (journey) and robo (robot). In this game, you will play as a lone robot who has one mission - to reach its destination by seeking out unique encounters with the world and its inhabitants.

Through different prompts, you will first jot down details of your robot's hardware and software quirks. Following the successful creation of your robot, you will explore the various locations in your particular world. Each encounter will be unique - from transactional engagements with local merchants to confrontations with the environment, your robot will learn, adapt and evolve at each new location.

Depending on your encounters, you may experience unexpected interactions that hinder your progress towards your destination.  This will shape the overall journey and ultimately how your robot's experiences will be reincorporated to the world.

What you need to play

  • Pen and paper (digital or analog)
  • A deck of cards (excluding jokers)

What this game includes

  • A robust robot generator that covers both hardware and software
  • A full adventure with randomized locations and encounters

This game was created as part of the Finish Your Damn RPG (Jam) game jam.

I really enjoyed playing this game. The robot construction is straightforward but has great variety to it. I'm looking forward to replaying the game with a robot with different directives and abilities to see how that changes how I approach the random locations and encounters.
I found it an interesting challenge thinking through how each encounter fits in the current location; how the robot will then interact with it; and how the robot will change as a consequence.
It was a nice touch that at the end you get to re-frame the journey from other points of view. This gives it a more satisfying ending than if you just stopped at the end of the journey.

Thanks for playing and sharing your comments, hope your next adventure is just as challenging as the first!

I like games with robots, I even made one myself, and this little single player RPG is a great success of the genre! With a single deck of cards, you build a little robot and move it from one point to another, seeing how much the experience changes it in the end. It's quite cute in the proposal, simple and efficient in the realization, in short, it's great!

Thanks for playing and I’m glad you enjoyed the experience!
